4th essay I made for my BC 12

ABORTION: BRINGS POSSITIVE OR NEGATVE EFFECTS ON WOMEN?

Abortion is the greatest cause of death in other counties and also here in the Philippines . Every year, nearly half a million women have abortions in the Philippines. Although it is true that abortion would be helpful in preventing pregnancy, I believe that abortion has a greater effect, on the physical, emotional and moral aspects.

Abortion can affect the woman's physical aspect. It can lead to severe bleeding known as haemorrhage  due to the torned and punctured uterus. It can damage the woman’s cervix. The cervix may be cut, torn, or damaged by abortion instruments. If that cervix of a woman who has undergone an abortion has no problems at that time, there may be problems encountered in future childbearing. It can produce scars on the  uterine lining. Suction tubing, curettes, and other abortion instruments may cause permanent scarring of the uterine lining. Scar tissue within the uterine cavity can partially or completely obliterate the normal cavity and can interfere with conception, or increase the risk of miscarriage or other complications later in the pregnancy. It can damage the woman's  internal organs. When the uterus is punctured or torn, there is also a risk that damage will occur to nearby organs such as the bowel and bladder. It can lead to death - Other physical complications from abortion including excessive bleeding, infection, organ damage from a perforated uterus, and adverse reactions to anesthesia may lead to death.

Abortion leaves emotional scars. Feelings of guilt are among the most common immediate as well as delayed reactions to abortion. Guilt is a normal reaction that usually surfaces after the woman recognizes that abortion is wrong and that she has consented to the killing of her pre-born child, the burden of guilt is relentless. Depression and sense of loss. Depression is a mood filled with sadness, guilt and feelings of hopelessness. Women who feel this doesn’t have the ability to look at other babies and pregnant mothers. Feelings of rejection, low self-esteem, guilt and depression are all ingredients for suicide. According to one study, women who have had abortions are nine times more likely to attempt suicide than women in the general population. (Ann Saltenberger, Every Woman Has a Right to Know the Dangers of Legal Abortion. p. 19, quoted in Reardon p.129).

It affects the woman's morality. A fetus is a member of the biological species homo sapiens (human being) . To destroy a human being deliberately is unethical (it's murder). Therefore, abortion is unethical, since it constitutes the deliberate destruction of a human being The majority of the women would be likely to disapprove an abortion unless the woman had been raped, or unless she had health problems relating to her pregnancy, or unless she were financially unable to take care of a baby. If, then, it is a virtue to act in accord with one's principles, many of the women having abortions seem not to have this virtue and are acting in a way which will not advance their possession of it.

With these, I can say that abortion brings negative effects on the womans physical, emotional, and moral aspects. Human life is "within" and the mother's body is preparing for the child's arrival. One of a mother's mission is to protect her young. A society that labels abortion as "women's health care" has no true understanding of what women need or want. The Declaration of Independence declared this the "unalienable" right to life. Therefore abortion should have not been legalized here in the Philippines.
