4th essay I made for my BC 12

ABORTION: BRINGS POSSITIVE OR NEGATVE EFFECTS ON WOMEN?

Abortion is the greatest cause of death in other counties and also here in the Philippines . Every year, nearly half a million women have abortions in the Philippines. Although it is true that abortion would be helpful in preventing pregnancy, I believe that abortion has a greater effect, on the physical, emotional and moral aspects.

Abortion can affect the woman's physical aspect. It can lead to severe bleeding known as haemorrhage  due to the torned and punctured uterus. It can damage the woman’s cervix. The cervix may be cut, torn, or damaged by abortion instruments. If that cervix of a woman who has undergone an abortion has no problems at that time, there may be problems encountered in future childbearing. It can produce scars on the  uterine lining. Suction tubing, curettes, and other abortion instruments may cause permanent scarring of the uterine lining. Scar tissue within the uterine cavity can partially or completely obliterate the normal cavity and can interfere with conception, or increase the risk of miscarriage or other complications later in the pregnancy. It can damage the woman's  internal organs. When the uterus is punctured or torn, there is also a risk that damage will occur to nearby organs such as the bowel and bladder. It can lead to death - Other physical complications from abortion including excessive bleeding, infection, organ damage from a perforated uterus, and adverse reactions to anesthesia may lead to death.

Abortion leaves emotional scars. Feelings of guilt are among the most common immediate as well as delayed reactions to abortion. Guilt is a normal reaction that usually surfaces after the woman recognizes that abortion is wrong and that she has consented to the killing of her pre-born child, the burden of guilt is relentless. Depression and sense of loss. Depression is a mood filled with sadness, guilt and feelings of hopelessness. Women who feel this doesn’t have the ability to look at other babies and pregnant mothers. Feelings of rejection, low self-esteem, guilt and depression are all ingredients for suicide. According to one study, women who have had abortions are nine times more likely to attempt suicide than women in the general population. (Ann Saltenberger, Every Woman Has a Right to Know the Dangers of Legal Abortion. p. 19, quoted in Reardon p.129).

It affects the woman's morality. A fetus is a member of the biological species homo sapiens (human being) . To destroy a human being deliberately is unethical (it's murder). Therefore, abortion is unethical, since it constitutes the deliberate destruction of a human being The majority of the women would be likely to disapprove an abortion unless the woman had been raped, or unless she had health problems relating to her pregnancy, or unless she were financially unable to take care of a baby. If, then, it is a virtue to act in accord with one's principles, many of the women having abortions seem not to have this virtue and are acting in a way which will not advance their possession of it.

With these, I can say that abortion brings negative effects on the womans physical, emotional, and moral aspects. Human life is "within" and the mother's body is preparing for the child's arrival. One of a mother's mission is to protect her young. A society that labels abortion as "women's health care" has no true understanding of what women need or want. The Declaration of Independence declared this the "unalienable" right to life. Therefore abortion should have not been legalized here in the Philippines.

3rd essay I made for my BC 12 subject

THE THREE KINDS OF LOVE

It is undeniable that the vital role that “lectures” play in the lives of students are to educate and entertain them at the same time. Lectures are activities where an adult would discuss something and share his experience with students. On a hot afternoon of the “intramurals” week, all of the fourth year students (including me) in our school were told to gather in the function hall to listen to a lecture. This lecture during my senior year in highschool have taught me about the three kinds of love called Eros, Philos, and Agape.

I learned that the first kind of love is Eros which is also called “erotic love”. It comes from the Greek belief in a God called by the same name. It is a selfish kind of love that seeks to conquer and control. This kind of love is based more on physical traits. I have experienced this kind of love when I was still in my sophomore year in high school. I have a huge crush on this guy who was of the same age as me. He is the ideal prince I've always dreamt of loving. He is tall, white, cute, charming, and intelligent. Since he is my crush I always try to catch his attention but sad to say, he never  ever have noticed me. I was hurt because of that I got angry at him and I never  tried to talk to him after that.

I learned that the second kind of love is Philos. It is a kind of love based on friendship between two people. It is a unique kind of love, like the love that one has for a friend, a companion, and brother/sister. It is a love based on give and take, where people benefit each other in a mutual way. One partner is still concerned with what he/she can take but at the same time is also concerned with his/ her partners benefit. I experienced this kind of love during my junior up to senior year in highschool. This is the time that I can really say that I truly loved  and cared for someone.  My bestfriend is aways there for me everytime I need someone to talk to—whatever it is—she will always be there to listen and give me advice. She is the only person who have been loyal to me and is worthy of my trust. In times she have problems like love problems, but mostly financial problems, I always let her borrow my money. I know she is  ashamed and she feels so low everytime she borrows money at me so I always tell her  that I don’t really need the money since I am going on a diet. If I keep the money then I will just buy junk food and softdrinks and those bad foods make me look like a pig and I also laugh and enumerate to her my plans when I'm already slim. And she always smiles after that. I just wish that she would be able to enjoy studying in this famous school like I do and she would never worry about money.

I learned that the third and the last kind of love is Agape which is also called the “unconditional love”. It is a totally selfless love. It is when a person gives out love to another person even if he/she cannot benefit from it. A good example of this kind of love is the unconditional love of God to us – his children. When God chose to send his one and only son to suffer and die on the cross for our salvation. Another example of this is our parents. They always do their best for us to be able to study in a good school, so that someday we will be able to have a good work, and so that we won’t suffer the hardships of life, like them. They are always there for us even in times that we have misunderstandings and quarrels. They don’t give up on us even if we ourselves have given up on us. They love us even if they don’t leave a little for themselves. They buy us expensive things we want while they use old and cheap phones. It is really an unmeasurable kind of love. So we must always love, respect and take good care of our parents and family. They are the only people who can love us selflessly after God.

Gaining more knowledge about the three kinds of  love -- Eros, Philos, and Agape-- I have been able to identify the kind of  love I felt during my past “love” experiences. Learning about the three kinds of love helped me to identify whether what I am feeling for someone is a mere attraction, love for a friend, or a selfless love and because of that I’ve been able to deal with love and give love advices to my friends and younger sisters.

The second essay I made for my Bc 12 subject

MY ROLE MODEL

There are many people out there, whom we can consider as a role model. What is a role model? A role model  is a person who possess qualities that we like to have and who influences us in a way that makes us want to be a better person. We always do our best to be like them—we dress up like them, cut our hair like theirs, and speak like them. Of all the people, the person I admire the most and I consider as my role model is Angela Zhang  because of her simplicity, personality, and abilities.

She is the proof of the saying  simplicity is beauty. Unlike any other actress, she dresses simply and uses light make-up. She believes that beauty is found in ones personality, not on the physical appearance. She impresses the people around her by staying simple and putting a smile on her face. Another thing she said;  “Sometimes people are beautiful. Not in the looks. Not in what they say. Just in what they are.” so we must be proud of our own beauty.

She has a very good personality. She is very nice to all her co-stars and to all their staffs. She loves making people laugh. She is always positive in dealing with problems. She is not rude and respects everyone. She fights for what she believe is right .

Abilities? She is full of them. Her acting skills are very strong that it can reach the hearts of the viewers. She is very popular in China and known all over the world. She has a very powerful voice that can project the emotions needed for the song she was singing.. In 2008, she was nominated as the Best Leading Actress in Television Series at the 43rd Golden Bell Awards and in 2009, won as one of the Top 10 Songs of the year in Hito Radio Music Award.

Having a role model is a good idea because we learn so much from them . Challenged by the fact that they are much better than us, we do our best to be much better than them. Having a role model like Angela Zhang, I learned that simplicity, personality, and abilities are the key to ones happiness. We must learn to be contented of what we have because we created in Gods image. Therefore, we are equally beautiful, talented and good hearted as the other creations of God. I also learned from her that instead of focusing on what others have and what we don’t have, we must take a step to develop our own qualities and make a role model out of ourselves.

CHANGE

They say change is the only constant thing in this world. Everything in the whole universe changes as time goes by. These changes can affect us either negatively or positively. I believe that within the past three to five years of my life, I have positively changed; physically, emotionally, and mentally.

I have developed physically. I began practicing good personal hygiene. If I have  spare time, I play sports like badminton. In going to places at  short distance, I always walk instead of taking a pedicab. At times when I feel bored  watching television, I often sweep the floor, wash my clothes, or clean my room and arrange the things inside my room.

I have changed emotionally. I learned to treasure good relationships with my friends, my classmates, and my family. When I am not busy, I always help my younger sisters with their projects and assignments. Sometimes I also tutor my two younger sisters, Vanessa—Grade 5 – and Adelita—Grade 3. At times my younger sisters and I are free, I always invite them to play jumping rope and sing in the karaoke machine. These would serve as our bonding moment. At night time, we gather in our parents bed (since my parents sleep late watching television dramas) and I will tell them scary stories or jokes sometimes (which I personally made) and they end up scared and sometimes laughing in my “corny” jokes.

I have matured mentally. I developed techniques which would be helpful in preventing my bad temper and helpful in controlling my emotions in times that I am hurt. Before sharing my opinion to someone, I first consider what they would feel and how they would react on what I am going to say to them.  Since I am living alone here in Dumaguete, I began to practice how to be independent and how to face my problems alone. Sometimes when I hear someone complaining about the negative personality of another person, I first observe them –the person complaining and the person she/he was complaining about—, after I finished observing them, that’s the time I will judge who has bad personality between the two .

We all changed through the years not just in our physical aspect but also in our emotional and mental aspects. I believe that these changes has affected me  in a positive way. These physical, emotional, and mental changes helped me to be mature in understanding life and its meaning. It also helped in opening my eyes that inspite of the failures I am experiencing today, there will be a successful future ahead.
Uggghhh.. My head and my whole body is aching writing my projects + planning on how it would come out, making the powerpoint presentation and preparing for the test tomorrow and the incoming exams after tomorrow.. Im so tired already.. I wish the result would be worth this effort!
